Biofertiliser

Plant Design

Anaerobic digesters can be designed in many different ways.   Greenfinch has developed a technology based on a single phase continuous mixed wet digestion system.   There are variations in the design of a plant to suit the specific handling requirements of different feedstocks, the different make-up and end uses of the biofertiliser and the variety of applications for the biogas.

Mass Balance

There are no losses from anaerobic digestion and a mass balance can be made where the mass of the feedstock is equal to the total mass of the biogas and biofertiliser.

Biofertiliser (Digestate)

The nutrients contained within the feedstocks are nearly all still present at the end of the process within the biofertiliser, (also referred to as digestate).   The biofertiliser is stored post digestion prior to being used beneficially on farmland.

Biogas

The biogas consists of 60% CH 4 and 40% CO 2 with traces of H 2 S, and is produced continuously.

There are broadly three main uses for biogas,

•  To use for cooking and heating hot water

•  To produce heat & electricity using a stationary engine

•  Or as biomethane for a vehicle fuel.

The biogas is most often converted to another energy form almost at once since storage is expensive.
