Scottish Plants | Greenfinch Projects The first on farm biogas plants in the UK, to be designed and built by Greenfinch are in south-west Scotland. These were constructed in 2004 as part of a Scottish Government project researching the diffuse pollution of bathing waters, with a focus on reducing the faecal indicator organisms (FIO) within the slurry thought to be the pollutant. Greenfinch is currently working on two farm biogas plants; 1. Agri, Food & Biosciences
Institiute (AFBI), Hillsbourough, Nr. Ireland . This
digester will be fed a mixture of farm products including slurry
from 300 cows and energy crops. This plant will be a highly
instrumented research tool for example allowing the gas from each
tank to be measured, different working heights within the tanks to
be used alongside a range of temperatures. It is due to be
commissioned in Spring 2008.
2. Kemble Farm, Cirencester . This digester will be fed the slurry produced from 600 cows, with energy crops and glycerine. The electricity will be fed back into the national grid and the heat will be used to heat the dairy water, and the farm dwellings. It is due to be commissioned in Spring 2008. |
