Defra

Defra are committed to encouraging a greater uptake of anaerobic digestion in a way that is both cost effective and beneficial to the environment.   As a result this will help with:

•  Climate change mitigation, specifically the reduction of green house gases from manures;

•  Production of renewable energy

•  Recovery of waste by reducing the quantity of organic waste going to landfill

Defra are using international initiatives to help feed into the UK's strategy for the development of an AD industry through programmes such as Farming for the Future,   The Rural Climate Change Forum and the Waste Implementation Programme (WIP).   The international initiatives include;

•  Methane to Markets, in which Defra are co-chairing the project with Argentina

•  EU-AGROBIOGAS

•  IEA - bioenergy task 37
