The field was seeded with Aberdart ryegrass in October 2002 with 32 experimental each measuring 1 metre by 10 metres. 8 separate experiments were carried out on the plots with 4 replicate plots randomly dispersed amongst the trial area.   After each cut the grassland was fertilised with digestate. Digestate produced during the winter months was stored for application in the spring. In the second season the harvesting cycle was adjusted according to the results from the experimental plots in the first season.
