Energy Crops

Energy crops and 'biomass' are commonly thought of as dry material used for burning.   Energy crops used within anaerobic digestion are primarily 'wet' crops that are commonly grown on UK farmland such as grass, wholecrop cereals, and maize.  

Energy crops used for anaerobic digestion can give a very positive energy balance.   The table below compares different biofuels showing the energy balance, after crop production and process energy has been accounted for, and also shows the energy ratio.
