The South Shropshire Biowaste Digester also takes food waste from other sources:

•  Cwm Harry Land Trust based in Newtown, Powys, has been delivering food waste to the plant since May 2007. They collect weekly from approx. 5000 households in the Newtown, Abermule and Tregynon areas;

•  The South Shropshire Housing Association has been making deliveries of grass cuttings collected locally, as often as the weather allows;

•  Somerset County Council have also been delivering food waste collected weekly from the Somerset area;

•  and most recently the plant has been accepting food waste from the local Tesco supermarket in Ludlow.

The waste delivered to Ludlow from Newtown and Somerset is a short term arrangement which enables the technology to be effectively demonstrated with suitable feedstock, and for these regions waste to be diverted from landfill while the appropriate technology is adopted locally.
